Doctor Cyrille Mumbere Musivirwa, medical director of the Lubero general reference hospital, deplores the case of unvaccinated children due to insecurity in this region. According to this doctor, children who have not taken all their doses of vaccine, including children with zero doses, represent “potential dangers” for the future in this part of the country.
“We have unaffected children, children who have problems with their vaccination schedule. These are children who are insufficiently vaccinated. So, these are potential dangers because they have not taken all their doses and they do not receive their doses regularly both in routine campaigns and in mass campaigns such as now. These are children whose vaccination status is doubtful,” he says.
Doctor Cyrille Mumbere also highlights so-called “zero doses” cases:
“And there are also children who we call zero doses. These zero-dose children are the ones who have never tasted the vaccine as it is there. We have them from mining quarries, we unfortunately have them in military camps too. As you know, soldiers, in the exercise of their duties, sometimes they move and they also move with their dependents. This is how we have children who are not sufficiently vaccinated among children dependent on military movements”
Furthermore, a vaccination campaign against poliomyelitis was launched on Friday October 11, one day after the official date, following the late arrival of inputs.
On this subject, the medical director indicates that 68,000 children under 5 years old are expected for this polio vaccination campaign.
