At the initiative of the association “Of Mice and Books” of friends of the library, Doctor Pierre Torres will present a conference on the prevention of Alzheimer’s disease in the Prayssac association hall (behind the village hall ) at 4 p.m. on Saturday October 19. Entrance is free. In the ranking of neurodegenerative pathologies, Alzheimer’s disease is in first place.
To treat this disease which affects around a million people in France (33,000 of whom are under 60 years old), there is a medical component and a hygiene component. The second, to which doctors attach certain importance, is not the most developed, although 40% of cases could be avoided with appropriate prevention. The doctor will demonstrate that preventive measures are essential today due to the real but moderate effectiveness of current drug treatments; we can act on modifiable risk factors (sleep, diet, physical activity, etc.). Perspectives of hope which bring renewed optimism at a time when the longevity of life continues to increase. A debate will follow the presentation, illustrated with visuals.
