A first in France. There first fully dedicated house for the care of children and adolescents with diabetes recently opened its doors, on September 30, welcoming 12 new families as part of the “First steps with diabetes” program. And it is in Toulouse, where the association is established.Childhood, Adolescence and Diabetes“, that the unique establishment of its kind provides support and support to several hundred diabetic children and their families.
A long-term project
At the initiative of this new structure: “Childhood, Adolescence and Diabetes”. Founded in 2007 under the leadership of the staff of the pediatric diabetology department of the Children’s Hospital of the Toulouse University Hospital and parents, the association has been working “for more than 15 years to support children living with diabetes and their family”.
In preparation for years, The Childhood Diabetes House has finally seen the light of day. Located at 109 avenue des Arènes romaines, near the Children’s Hospital of the Toulouse University Hospital, the establishment aims to provide young people, as well as their families and loved ones, with a warm and welcoming space “outside the hospital”, encouraging exchanges.
As indicated on its site, the association envisages this place as: a place adapted to learning and appropriation of illness, a place of resource and meetings for young people and their families and finally, a link of training and information for health professionals, professionals caring for children in their everyday lives and the general public.
Lots of suitable equipment
The house has all the resources necessary for the well-being and support of sick children. In fact, it was built near the Children’s Hospital. She has connected training rooms and individual offices to maintain the link (even at a distance) and is also equipped withan educational kitchen as well as d’a dining room.
Young children can also benefit from the equipped space which is entirely dedicated to them. A lounge for friendly meetings and an outdoor space dedicated to physical activities have also been set up. Finally, the establishment is easy to access public transport (tram, bus, 3rd metro line).
