This Lot health center is developing a rich range of care

Opened 10 years ago, the multi-professional health center (MSP) “Les Oliviers”, located in Lamagdelaine in the Lot, is now made up of four general practitioners and 22 health professionals. An initiative which makes it possible to fight against medical deserts in a department where fewer than 360 general practitioners provide follow-up for 175,000 people.

The fight against medical deserts has become a major public health issue. In Lot, where the National Council of the Order of Physicians lists 358 general practitioners in regular activity for nearly 175,000 inhabitants in 2024, or two doctors per 1,000 people, the concern is serious. So, health professionals organize and regroup, and multi-professional health centers are created; the Lot currently has 26, scattered throughout the department. Next to Cahors, in Lamagdelaine more precisely, there is a particularly dynamic one, whose development allows the people of Lot to access a rich range of care: the MSP “Les Oliviers”.

4 doctors and 22 health professionals

Created 10 years ago, in the form of a medical center, it became a health center in 2022 and continues to develop by attracting new professionals. This private establishment today brings together four general practitioners and 22 health professionals. Residents of the area can thus find their treating doctor but also several multidisciplinary specialists: nurses, physiotherapist, speech therapist, chiropodist-podiatrist, psychomotor therapist, dietician, orthoptist, optician, hearing aid specialist, psychologist, sophrologist, marriage and family counselor, chiropractor and hypnologist . An initiative that works since in 2023, the MSP “Les Oliviers” carried out 8,847 medical consultations.

A public health project

Beyond simple consultations, the professionals at the Health Center organize, through consultations between doctors, personalized care pathways to monitor certain patients requiring the use of several practitioners. An approach made possible and efficient thanks to the grouping of specialists. At the same time, the MSP is developing a real public health project by organizing awareness and prevention operations, such as workshops on the theme of aging well from the age of 60, diabetes, addictions or cancer.
