SIX CASES OF MEASLES CONFIRMED IN FIVE DISTRICTS OF THE COUNTRY

Dakar, Oct 9 (APS) – Six cases of measles have been recorded in five health districts of the country (Dakar Sud, Foundiougne, Keur Massar, Pikine and Saraya), APS learned from a health source, which specifies that no cases mpox or monkeypox has been recorded in Senegal.

”Six confirmed cases of measles were reported by five districts, namely Dakar South (1), Foundiougne (1), Keur Massar (1), Pikine (2) and Saraya (1). The districts of Dakar South and Foundiougne thus report their first confirmed case of the year,” indicates the Directorate of Surveillance and Response to Infectious Public Health Emergencies and Performance Indicators.

In its epidemiological bulletin, a copy of which is sent to the APS, this management notes that ”the district of Pikine, which emerged from a first epidemic on May 8, has just crossed the threshold a second time on Tuesday, October 9”. ‘.

”As for the Saraya district, in the Kédougou region, it is entering an epidemic for the first time,” underlines the document.

The Directorate for Surveillance and Response to Infectious Public Health Emergencies and Performance Indicators reported “other epidemics which are underway”.

”This is Crimean Congo hemorrhagic fever confirmed by PCR in the district of Keur Massar (01)”, specified the epidemiological bulletin.

”Concerning chikungunya, a case was recorded in the Kédougou district. Regarding dengue, eleven cases were reported this week, half the maximum incubation in five districts classified as +active epidemic+, which are Gossas (03), Mbour (03), Dakar Sud (01), Thiès (01) and Fatick (01)”, adds the same note.

The Saraya district is entering an epidemic for the first time with three reported cases, the last of which dates from September 10, she continues.

The Directorate for Surveillance and Response to Infectious Public Health Emergencies has also assured “that no case of mpox disease has been confirmed in Senegal”.

”A cumulative 85 negative cases were taken across 39 districts, including five during the week in Salémata (02), Matam (01), Popenguine (01) and Ziguinchor (01). None of the notified cases correspond to the definition of suspected case of epidemiological surveillance,” she said.
