Microbes 2024, here we go!

The SFM annual congress opens its doors today with, as always, a very rich and varied program. With the rise, as everywhere, of environmental issues, whether in laboratory management, in the emergence of new pathogens or environmental monitoring.

As every year, the SFM has carefully prepared its congress with a program that is always very rich and reflects the trends in the different branches of microbiology.

In addition to the congress itself, the event is hosting for the first time a “mycology and parasitology” symposium organized in partnership with the SFMM and the SFP (respectively French society of medical mycology and French society of parasitology).

At the same time, we will also find the now traditional “Flu and respiratory viruses” symposium which opens the 2024 winter season with an overview of feedback from last winter,

Young people always in the spotlight

Young people are always in the spotlight with thesis and travel prizes and scholarships, a “Careers” forum and numerous sessions aimed at them. And of course always, the poster prizes and the photo competition in which young microbiologists generally participate a lot.

Environment, microbiome and pedagogy

Furthermore, we will note three major trends which are highlighted during this congress:

  • the rise of environmental issues which makes it possible to bridge different branches of microbiology, particularly via the One Health concept;
  • Studies and explorations of the microbiome, which also form a bridge between different branches of microbiology (virology, bacteriology, mycology in particular) through the study of the systems and complex exchanges that take place there;
  • and a particular focus on the educational innovations of the SFM with a dedicated space allowing you to test the latest creations and a special “pedagogy” session.
