Five warning symptoms of multiple sclerosis: they can appear several years before the disease begins

This little-known symptom is the first sign of a ruptured aneurysm

Unfortunately, there is no cure yet for people with a progressive form of the disease. On the other hand, support has greatly improved. Earlier the disease is detected, the more it is possible to delay the appearance of the handicapexplained Professor Céline Louapre, neurologist responsible for the clinical investigation center of the Brain Institute, as reported Cosmopolitan. It is therefore essential to be able to recognize the symptoms of multiple sclerosis, in order to be able to react as soon as possible.

Last December, researchers from the Brain Institute published a study in the journal Neurology. According to them, it would be possible to identify the biological mechanisms at the origin of the pathology well before it was officially declared. This could therefore make it possible to treat patients much earlier and thus slow down the effects of the disease. This study also allows researchers to understand when the inflammatory process begins precisely.

Researchers had already determined that some signs of the disease actually appeared well before the peak of the disease, but they had not drawn up a precise picture. A few months ago, they developed a list of five symptoms or inconveniences that may appear five years before a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis. These include depression, constipation, sexual dysfunction, cystitis and other urinary tract infections.

Do you notice this symptom? It may be an early sign of Alzheimer’s disease

Of course, if you have these symptoms, it does not necessarily mean that you will have multiple sclerosis in a few years. The researcher also specifies that these signs are not enough to make an early diagnosis, but that they help to better understand disease mechanisms. Furthermore, the study shows that the disease begins “well before the appearance of classic neurological symptoms”.

If you have a family history and you experience these symptoms or they come on unexpectedly, this should alert you.
