Popular in sandwiches, this ingredient could reduce dementia risks

Do you like to eat sandwiches? So it is very possible that you regularly consume this ingredient without even paying attention to it! A popular ingredient whose fans will have an additional reason to appreciate it.

Indeed, a recent study carried out in Tokyo demonstrates the impact of a type of dairy product. The latter would reduce the risks of dementia. Enough to change the content of its plate

An ingredient with astonishing virtues

Carried out by a team of scientists in Tokyo, Japan, this study looked at the health, physical activity and eating habits of 1,516 people over 65 years old. Diet, history of falls, maladies
chronic conditions, muscle mass, body fat, blood pressure, walking speed… multiple criteria were analyzed. And it was clear that all the people obtaining the best results had one thing in common: cheese.

An ingredient consumed daily

This ingredient would thus have extremely positive virtues at the cognitive level. In fact, scientists found that 80% of the people studied ate cheese every day (28%), once every two days (24%) or twice a week (30%). At the top of the list was processed cheese, then cheeses such as Brie and Camembert. Next came fresh cheese and blue cheese. Each participant was asked a series of 30 questions. These covered memory as well as language, orientation, attention and visual-spatial skills. And the results were clear.

Very telling scores

Those scoring 23 or less were considered to have poor cognitive function. The study showed that the score increased if people regularly consumed cheese. Likewise, their blood pressure and BMI were also lower. They walked faster and had an overall more varied diet. However, their cholesterol levels and blood sugar levels remained high.

Very encouraging results

According to experts, “ high consumption of vegetables, algae, dairy products and soy as well as low consumption of grain products is associated with a reduced risk of developing dementia ».
« Additionally, a high intake of milk and dairy products reduces the risk of developing Alzheimer’s dementia » we read in the study. So, while cheese might have brain-stimulating properties, more studies are still needed to fully understand its role in reducing dementia.
