Navarrenx: an artistic work unveiled for the launch of Pink October

On the initiative of the Vivre Avec association, which offers support and assistance to people affected by cancer and their loved ones throughout the year, around forty residents of Navarrenx and the surrounding area met Monday evening on the town hall square lit up with shades of pink to celebrate in a friendly atmosphere, around a country buffet, the launch of the artistic work “October will be pink”, designed and financed by local artist Bernard Saint-Maxent.

This installation includes a tree decorated with nest boxes, which symbolizes the importance of home, the environment, support and accompaniment in the fight against disease, as well as pink wood pigeons, “in a nod to the local culture”, placed above the entrance to the town hall and Crédit Agricole. It will remain in place throughout the month of October.

Encourage donations

Through this work, the artist also wishes to challenge and raise public awareness of the Pink October campaign to encourage donations to the Vivre Avec association.

This decoration joins the pink butterflies and other garlands which have recently decorated the windows of local merchants. Pink ballot boxes were also installed in these stores to collect contributions.

A Pink Solidarity March will take place on October 20

Nathalie Saint-Maxent, president of Vivre Avec, expressed her gratitude to “all the partners who allow us to carry out actions throughout the year for people suffering from cancer and their caregivers”. For the occasion, a pink t-shirt bearing the names of the partners was created and is sold for 16 euros at 41 rue Saint-Germain.

Pink will probably be the predominant color worn by all participants in the Pink Solidarity March organized by the association on Sunday October 20, with three courses of 3, 7 and 13 km on the program, marking the culmination of Pink October.

The Loisirs des Remparts association joined the event by contributing to the creation of the garlands with its sewing workshop. Sports clubs are also participating in the effort: on Saturday October 12, SCAN basketball will donate the proceeds from the hamper to the Vivre Avec association, and on Sunday October 13, the Stade Navarrais rugby will do the same.
