Santé Publique France announced an increase in virus circulation indicators, mainly among people aged 65 and over.
An increase driven by seniors
The Covid-19 is returning to France with an increase in cases. In its bulletin of September 25, 2024, Public Health France confirms this trend by indicating an intensification of the spread of SARS-CoV-2. Health authorities therefore recommend wearing a mask for people with symptoms, in crowded places or in the presence of vulnerable people. Regular hand washing is also recommended. The vaccination campaign, which targets in particular the elderly and those at risk of serious illness, will begin on October 15.
Covid 19 in figures
During the week of September 16 to 22, the indicators of Covid-19 are clearly increasing, both in hospitals and in community medicine. This rebound mainly concerns adults, and particularly seniors:
3,578 SOS Médecins consultations for suspected Covid, i.e. 4% of acts
3,253 visits to the emergency room for Covid symptoms (0.9% of visits)
28 hospitalizations in intensive care for suspicion or confirmation of Covid (1.1%)
29% of tests carried out in city laboratories are positive
15% of hospital tests also come back positive
The majority variant
Since November 2023, the dominant variant in France has been JN.1, a sublineage of the Omicron variant, which represents 99% of cases. This variant circulates globally, and in France, the KP.3.1.1 sublineage is increasingly detected.
