Initiated from October 1 to 31 on the theme “Your examination today is safe and reassuring… Don’t hesitate“, this campaign aims to raise awareness among the general population, particularly women in the age groups targeted by the program, on the importance of early detection of breast and cervical cancersunderlines the ministry in a press release.
As part of the national cancer prevention and control plan, a structured program for the early detection of breast and cervical cancers was put in place and made it possible to strengthen the provision of screening care. , diagnosis and management of these two cancers.
Thus, the early detection of these cancers is currently integrated into primary health care and reinforced by the construction and equipment of 55 centres of reference for reproductive health and the acquisition of 24 mobile mammography units, intended to ensure access to women in remote areas, specifies the same source.
Support is provided at the level of 12 oncology centers and of 2 poles of excellence in gyneco-mammary oncology at the university hospital centers of Rabat and Casablanca, in addition to private clinics specializing in oncology which strengthen the care offer, notes the press release.
According to the ministry, a set of organizational measures are also put in place to facilitate women’s access to screening, early diagnosis and treatment services in the best conditions, as well as for the strengthening and mobilization of partners, departments external ministerial and non-governmental organizations.
These efforts made it possible to diagnose 64,5% cases of stage I and II breast cancer and to ensure more effective treatment, the same source said.
Breast and cervical cancers rank among the first cancers recorded among women in Morocco, representing respectively 39,1% et 6,5%according to data from the latest report of the register cancers 2018-2021.
