The Province of Liège has obtained the agreement of the majority of general practitioner circles in the district of Liège to extend the passage of the Mammobile on their territory.
After the Verviers region, the district of Huy-Waremme and Basse-Meuse, women aged 50 to 69 in the Liège municipalities will now also be able to benefit from this essential service. In September, the Province of Liège refitted one of its old TipTop coaches into a second Mammobile and invested in a second mammograph for an amount of €190,000. From January 2025, when the new mammograph will be approved by the CCRef and the AFCN – a three-month procedure -, the second bus will be able to travel the roads of the province. It will make it possible to assume the expansion of screening to the 71 municipalities concerned in agreement with the circles of general practitioners and, also, to replace the first in the event of a problem.
Breast cancer screening can be carried out free of charge in all approved centers of which provincial mobile screening is a part and is carried out every two years. The added value of the provincial system is to meet women, in areas sometimes far from approved screening centers. Making an appointment is mandatory. The result of the Mammotest is sent to the general practitioner or gynecologist informed by the patient.
