Ticks remain active until the first frost

The Montérégie Public Health Department (DSPM) reminded on its Facebook page that ticks remain active during the fall until the first frost. The organization warned the population that it is therefore necessary to continue to be careful.

Lyme disease is caused by bacteria that is transmitted through the bite of an infected tick. According to the DSPM, it is a disease which can lead to consequences such as arthritis or damage to the nervous system if it is not treated in time.

A tick bite can mainly occur in wooded areas, forests, undergrowth, shrubs and brush, tall grass, unmaintained land, as well as gardens near wooded areas, shrubs, brush or tall grass.

The organization emphasizes, however, that it is easy to protect yourself against tick bites and that it is important in this case to wear clothing that covers the skin; apply mosquito repellent containing DEET or icaridin; and to carefully examine your body, those of children and pets after the activity.
