Under the leadership of the General Directorate for AIDS Prevention (DGPS), an HIV/AIDS awareness and screening campaign took place recently in Tchibanga, under the supervision of Adélaïde Mbelé, in the presence of the regional director of Health ( DRS) from Nyanga, Thierry Noël Mamboundou.
Thanks to the collaboration of the National Infection Control Program, the extended provincial committee and the Outpatient Treatment Center (CTA), this public health operation made it possible, once again, to educate a number of volunteer local residents on the dangers of AIDS. After awareness raising, there was the free screening phase. And at the end of the two days dedicated to it, more men than women were tested. But of the 361 people who came to find out their HIV status, only 2 positive cases were recorded among women.
The Nyanga Regional Health Directorate, however, regrets the lack of enthusiasm among young girls to be tested. Whereas, according to the organizers, this type of initiative helps to prevent the rate of HIV/AIDS contamination.
With this in mind, more than 14,000 condoms were distributed free of charge in administrations, neighborhoods, and at the Dialogue stadium in Tchibanga where a sporting activity bringing together several young people took place. The free screenings took place in place of the war memorial adjoining the old market. Many of them jumped at the opportunity. Believing, rightly, that there is no shame when it comes to health.
