She creates a headband that promises to improve symptoms in 20 minutes a day!

Neurode aims to free people with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) from the side effects of medication with a headband that works through electrical stimulation. The Australian startup was founded by Nathalie Gouailhardou, a neuroscientist who herself suffers from ADHD.

In a presentation video, she explains that the prefrontal cortexprefrontal cortex plays a major role in ADHD. This neurodevelopmental disorder causes difficulties with memory, concentration, and impulsivity, and is thought to be linked to insufficient activity in the prefrontal cortex. Medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by increasing the neurotransmittersneurotransmitters like the dopaminedopamine and the noradrenalinenoradrenalinebut cause many side effects.

Sensors to track changes in the prefrontal cortex

The Neurode headband stimulates the prefrontal cortex with electrical impulses in a very targeted manner, thus avoiding the majority of side effects related to medications. It would take only 20 minutes a day to see an improvement in symptomssymptomswith neuroplastic changes that are consistent with the durationduration. In addition, the banner contains sensorssensors infraredinfrared to detect changes in blood oxygen levels, data that is sent to a applicationapplication mobilemobile. This allows monitoring of the activity of the brainbrain and its evolution over time, in order to see if the symptoms improve.

The headband is still in development and Neurode has not yet released information on a possible price or on the effectiveness in clinical trialsclinical trials. However, it is possible to register on the waiting list on the site. Once validated for ADHD, Neurode hopes that its headband can also be used to manage depression or monitor cognitive decline.
