The American Medical Association recommends using the body fat index, a new tool to replace the body mass index (BMI). BMI has been a measure used for years in discussions about weight and excess weight. However, several groups, including the American Medical Association, believe that BMI is a imperfect method of measuring body fat. What is Body Roundness Index and How Could It Be Better Than Body Mass Index?

Jean-Pierre Després, professor of kinesiology at Université and scientific director of VITAM, has been conducting research on the limits of BMI for nearly 40 years. He explains these changes in an interview.
