In three years, she has become one of the most important figures in French political life. Elected to the perch in 2022reappointed in office despite the dissolution last summer, Yaël Braun-Pivet is one of the big names in Macronism. However, the one who has just celebrated her 54th birthday is very discreet about her private life. The media barely know the name of her husband, Vianney Pivet, an executive at L’Oréal.

However, this January 10, the politician cracked the armor for one of the first times, during an interview for the media Ladies. The former Socialist Party activist revealed that she had been engaged in a fight against the disease for three years. A struggle which did not prevent her from continuing her political rise.

Yaël Braun-Pivet fights against breast cancer

The President of the National Assembly suffers from breast cancer, a disease affecting nearly one in eight women in . “Like more than 60,000 women each year, I was diagnosed with breast cancer just 3 years ago. As with them, it was a bolt from the blue in my life. No one is prepared for cancer. Like them, I lived with the uncertainty of the diagnosis, the anxiety of the operation, the wait for the analysis results, the daily life of the treatments”she wrote on X.

The Renaissance figure explains that she discovered she was suffering from this cancer as part of a simple screening. A medical procedure, offered free of charge and recommended every two years for women aged 50 to 74, which saved her life. Thanks to this early discovery, the treatment has made it possible to considerably limit the progression of the disease, even if it is not yet considered curable. Not stepping out of her political role, the native of sends advice to her followers: “So, if you need to make a good resolution at the start of the year, I can only recommend that you go get tested. Breast cancer, colon cancer, cervical cancer…: don’t wait any longer!”she says.

Hormone therapy treats Yaël Braun-Pivet

The short-lived Minister of Overseas, particularly involved in the fight against cancer (she was notably seen wearing the pink ribbon in the Assembly), is today being treated with hormone therapy. This medical processwhich allows it to continue to fully ensure its political mission.

“Today I am fine. I am under hormonal therapy and I am followed regularly by a team of caregivers who throughout this process have been tremendously committed and dedicated”she added in her tweet.

In 2013, another politician, Dominique Bertinottiminister responsible for the family, also chose to speak out to explain that she was leading the same fight against breast cancer.
