After 6 months of work carried out by the CHU with the assistance of the State, the SAMU du Nord teams took possession of their new regulation room. The brand new premises, considerably enlarged and improved, benefit from ergonomic and state-of-the-art equipment. This Health Platform brings together all the regulatory missions on a single platform, first and foremost those of Center 15. More than 1.2 million euros have been committed to the regulation room, financed by strong aid from the ARS des Hauts-de-France (1 million euros), as part of the overall renovation of the SAMU carried out by the Lille University Hospital (operation of 5 million euros in total).
With more than one million one hundred thousand calls answered in 2023, the SAMU du Nord assumes one of the most important regulatory activities in France. By going from 35 telephone stations in its old configuration to 82 stations today, the new SAMU du Nord control room makes it possible to group and share several missions: emergencies with Center 15, but also access to the liberal medicine with the Access to Care Service and the Outpatient Care Center, or the regulation of perinatal needs with the perinatal regulation center, as well as psychiatry with the “ SAS PSY »: 3114, PRISME, VIGILANS, or even dental regulation.
This ultra-modern room also makes it possible to mobilize crisis telephone stations in just a few moments in the event of an Exceptional Health Situation (ESS), deployed in a dedicated area which is then protected.
A high-tech platform for optimal call tracking
In conjunction with the Digital Resources and Physical Resources departments of Lille University Hospital, an innovative work environment has been installed for the ergonomics of medical regulation assistants and regulating doctors. The workstations, secure and individualized, use developed technologies for geolocation of the caller for rapid assistance, but also video regulation to connect instantly to the camera of the caller’s phone – with their prior agreement. Another innovation, the fiber optic link with the firefighters (SDIS) facilitates coordination for vital emergencies.
In this vast control room, numerous control screens allow operators to see in real time the flow of calls, the average waiting time, and to compare them to the same day of the previous year with the aim of improvement. the quality and speed of the response provided to users.
The installed technology offers maximum telephony security, with several redundancies and continuity devices in the event of an external network failure.
An ergonomic environment that improves working comfort
Soundproofing and sound insulation have been particularly carefully designed to provide the most calm and serene atmosphere possible for operators. Each operator station has variable height to vary the working mode (sitting or standing), which is essential for long shifts. Each operator has 4 screens with advanced mapping software allowing calls to be precisely located and, if necessary, to see the caller.
The ergonomics, lighting, colors and the relaxation room were carried out with the help of the Occupational Medicine department and ergonomists at the University Hospital. These installations have won the full support of the SAMU du Nord teams, who see a clear improvement in their working conditions.
A platform that facilitates the training of future professionals
As part of its partnership with the Training Center for Medical Regulation Assistants (CFARM), created by the Lille University Hospital in 2023, the new regulation platform offers an ideal framework for the training of future professionals in practical internships. In 2024, a class of 30 students was able to train there with the support of the Medical Regulation Assistants of the SAMU du Nord as tutors. This partnership meets the SAMU’s needs for professionals trained in urgent response to users, in conjunction with regulatory doctors.
Places will be open to register for this training, accessible to all, from 2025.

A vast plan to modernize SAMU du Nord equipment
These new premises are part of the overall modernization plan for the SAMU du Nord. With a new, much larger garage, a completely renewed fleet of vehicles, yellow in color, better identifiable on the road, the SAMU du Nord has been equipped by the Lille University Hospital with state-of-the-art equipment. It thus carries out more than 10,000 SMUR outings each year, including nearly 900 by helicopter, corresponding to a level of activity among the highest in France.
