Like every day, Doctor Jean-Paul Vieillepeau’s consultation is always full. He has now been living in the town for nine years. He did all his medical studies in Costa Rica, his mother’s country of origin. He even started his professional life there. But the call from France was stronger and more precisely the call from Sarthe, his father’s native land.
“I said to myself, I’m half French, it’s also my country. I wanted to know my Sarthoise roots. The Sarthois are at first a little suspicious. That’s how they are. But when they open their hearts, things go very well and they are very welcoming.“Dr Jean-Paul Vieillepeau, Doctor in Yvré-le-Pôlin
The younger brother finally arrives and settles in the same office
And since last summer, residents have even had the chance to have a second doctor. The younger brother of the Vieillepeau family has moved in just across the hall.
REPORT ON TWO COSTARICAN DOCTORS IN SARTHE
“I chose family medicine. Like in the old days, when the family doctor went to dinner with his patients. I like that, I like the confidence. If you come here, it’s because you want to tell me about your life. And I have to help you.“Dr Gérald Vieillepeau, doctor in Yvré-le-Pôlin
A boon for all the surrounding communities
Do good for the community, but also for the surrounding communities. Many have seen their GP retire without being replaced. In all weathers, patients travel ten, twenty, up to 30 km to consult doctors Vieillepeau. And the secretariat is stormed. “It always hurts not to be able to take patients who are also in need of a doctor.“says Véronique Villain, medical secretary. “I am at just over 2,300 patients. My brother just arrived and has about 1500“explains Jean-Paul Vieillepeau.
Sarthe has once again brought together the Vieillepeau family. After an interminable separation, the grandfather is finally enjoying his grandchildren and his two doctor sons.” I’ve been waiting for them for years. It makes me happy to have them here. I’m going to spend my first Christmas with them .” Serge Vieillepeau, father of the two doctors
At 42 and 46 years old, the doctor brothers from Yvré-le-Pôlin see themselves treating the inhabitants of Sarthe for a very long time and traveling a long way with them.
