A professional base jumper crossed a pile of the Millau viaduct in a wingsuit. A world first.
The Millau Viaduct continues to inspire base jumpers around the world. After having multiplied the figures from his apron, two pro base jumpers, Javi Centeno Gomez and Filip Kubica performed a first, this time, in a wing suit. They launched from a paramotor, above Norman Foster’s work, to cross one of its piles… in a wing suit! A combination that allows you to glide at over 150 km/h. Once they crossed the pile, they opened their parachute to land at the level of the Tarn. The performance is breathtaking and has already sparked reactions in the community.
Base jumping prohibited from the Viaduct
The Millau Viaduct and base jumping maintain a complicated relationship. When base jumpers launch from the apron for a “Big”, named after the exit, they risk being fined. A prefectural decree even prohibits jumping from motorway structures. However, it allows training jumps for practitioners.
A jump… on a skateboard!
However, this does not stop lovers of the discipline. One of them even took off with a skateboard. The image had gone around the world and the board was intact after the jump.
