Speaking during the ceremony celebrating the 20th anniversary of the creation of the Agadir Referral Center for HIV care, the largest nationally, Mr. Tahraoui indicated that 78% of people living with HIV in Morocco now know their status, compared to 49% in 2013, adding that coverage of antiretroviral treatments has increased from 30% to 75% thanks to the “test and treat” strategy.

These advances are the result of hard work and will be reinforced by the Integrated National Strategic Plan 2024-2030, rolled out at the regional level for an even more targeted impact, he underlined.

In this sense, Mr. Tahraoui praised the far-sighted vision and commitment of King Mohammed VI to strengthening the health system and the fight against all forms of social exclusion.

Created in 2004, the Agadir Referral Center for the treatment of HIVA currently monitors 5,288 people, including 180 children under 15 years old, or 33% of people living with this pathology.

With a bed capacity of 22 beds, this health structure which mobilizes human resources made up of medical, paramedical and administrative staff, will soon undergo redevelopment work with the support of the Souss Massa Regional Council.

This also involves updating the lists of people living with HIV (PLHIV), by improving accessibility to relay centers in the Souss Massa region (Tiznit, Taroudant) as well as other regions including Laâyoune, Dakhla and Guelmim.

Furthermore, the center will be upgraded and certified, and its human resources will be strengthened, as well as the involvement of the private sector to ensure the care of PLHIV.
