For the Grand Est, the 2023 data, extracted from the Bulletin Surveillance and prevention of HIV infections and bacterial STIs (sexually transmitted infections) from Public Health France, reflect good and less good news with regard to HIV (virus of human immunodeficiency) and AIDS (which is the last stage of HIV infection).
HIV surveillance
Participation in LaboVIH (HIV screening activity monitoring system) continues to increase and has reached 95%. The completeness of the DO (compulsory declaration) in Grand Est, reaching 72%, is generally stable in recent years and close to that observed in mainland France outside Île-de-France.
HIV testing
HIV testing activity marks an increase in 2023. It is the highest in the last ten years. Women aged 15 to 49 are the people who are tested the most. Use of the HIVTEST system, generally stable since its launch in 2022, increases sharply at the end of 2023.
Diagnostic of VIH
The number of people who discovered their HIV status in 2023 has been estimated at nearly 300. This is increasing in 2023, contrary to trends observed in previous years. 22% of HIV infections were discovered at an advanced stage, this proportion has generally tended to decrease since 2020.
HIV incidence and size of the undiagnosed population
In 2023, the incidence of HIV (estimate of the number of new cases of HIV infection diagnosed or not) was estimated at around 160. The number of people living with HIV without knowing their HIV status is estimated at 511 people ( end of 2023).
AIDS diagnostics
Last year, the number of AIDS diagnoses in Grand Est was estimated at 59.
Prevention
In Grand Est, 8,669,204 male condoms were sold in supermarkets and pharmacies (excluding drugstores) in 2023 (source: Public Health France). This figure was increasing compared to recent years.
