The heart of this operation lies in the deployment of a mobile medical unit equipped to meet the diverse needs of residents, offering an impressive range of services.
The Cours de la Révolution, the most important public square in the town of Annaba, has been transformed since the day before yesterday into a real space for prevention and care. Under the leadership of wali Abdelkader Djellaoui, the awareness campaign for screening for diabetes and high blood pressure was launched with great fanfare, marking a crucial step in the fight against chronic diseases.
Organized in partnership between the wilaya health department, the “Lamsa Douctour” association and the Ministry of Health, this three-day initiative highlights exemplary collaboration. The wali, visibly impressed by the quality of the installations and devices deployed, praised the scale and professionalism of this event: “These efforts reflect a clear desire to meet the needs of the population. It is essential to maintain this dynamic to guarantee equitable access to health.”
The heart of this campaign lies in a unique device: a clino-mobile, a mobile medical unit equipped to meet the diverse needs of residents. This itinerant structure offers an impressive range of services, including ophthalmological and cardiological consultations, laboratory analyzes and even medical imaging examinations. Residents can also receive vaccinations there, reinforcing the preventive aspect of this initiative.
With the aim of reaching 12,000 inhabitants in just three days, this campaign mobilizes qualified staff, made up of doctors, biologists and healthcare assistants. These professionals not only carry out screenings, but also work to raise public awareness of the risks associated with chronic diseases, an essential part of reducing their incidence in the long term. “Frankly, I did not expect such a comprehensive initiative. At my age, 72, we end up avoiding hospitals because of the tiring travel. But then, everything came to us! I was very well received, had my blood pressure measured, had an eye exam, and even had my blood taken to check my diabetes and cholesterol. The doctors explained to me how to better manage my health on a daily basis, with advice on diet and physical activity. I feel cared for and listened to, and that makes all the difference. I really thank those who organized all this, it’s a great show of respect for elders like me,” said one of the residents who was taken care of by the medical staff on site. Present at the venue of the event, Dr Nacer Damèche, director of health for the wilaya of Annaba, was keen to underline the strategic importance of this initiative: “The Ministry of Health places prevention at the heart of its priorities, and the wilaya is fully part of this vision. Going directly to the populations is an innovative and necessary approach.
We have achieved a 100% child vaccination rate under the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI), and we are also continuing early detection of cervical, breast and prostate cancers to reduce its incidence. These figures illustrate our unwavering commitment to prevention and better care for populations.” This campaign, which will end today, November 28, embodies the hope of a society where prevention plays a primordial role. It demonstrates the desire of local authorities and associative partners to place health within everyone’s reach.
While the first two days of screening have already shown promise, the wilaya of Annaba shows the example of a modern and human approach to the challenges of chronic diseases. A laudable initiative which, we hope, will last over time.
