Nearly a third of those receiving food aid are under 35 years old

It is a survey carried out by the National Institute of Youth and Popular Education (Injep), which underlines this: young people are over-represented among those using food aid: those under 35 in fact use 1 .5 times more frequently than the oldest. Students, for their part, are largely over-represented and are twice as likely to benefit from food aid as in the general population.

In 2021, 30% of beneficiaries of in-kind food aid provided by an association are between 16 and 35 years old. These young people have significantly lower financial resources than the other appellants and are more often of foreign nationality. Six out of ten say they use it once or twice a month, and four out of ten once or twice a week. Four sub-groups stand out among these young people: the first is mainly made up of inactive women with children (41%), the second of students (37%), the third of precarious young people in professional integration (11%) and the fourth of people who are homeless or in very precarious circumstances (11%). Each subgroup has specific practices in terms of frequency, location of distribution and type of food recovered.
