The ECN ranking of specialties 2024, which are the favorite specialties? And the neglected ones?

To establish its classification of specialties, The Student established a calculation method based on the list of those admitted published in the Official Journal. And in each group the share of those admitted classified among the first 100 of the group, but also among the first 1,000, the rank of the first and last admitted in each group, the average rank of those admitted to the group and of course the filling rate of the specialty. So on the basis of these 6 criteria here is the ranking of the 2024 specialties:

4- Maxillofacial surgery

5- Infectious and tropical diseases

6- Otolaryngology – head and neck surgery

7- Cardiovascular medicine

8- Anesthesia-resuscitation

9- Oncology

10- Nephrology

12- Neurosurgery

12- Urology

14- Orthopedic and trauma surgery

14- Thoracic and cardiovascular surgery

15- Neurology

16- Hepato-gastroenterology

17- Radiology and medical imaging

18- Obstetrics gynecology

19- Rheumatology

21- Hematology

21- Nuclear medicine

22- Intensive medicine-resuscitation

23- Visceral and digestive surgery

24- Pediatric surgery

25- Internal medicine and clinical immunology

26- Vascular surgery

28- Medical gynecology

This year again, six specialties failed to fill up the open positions. Thus, Public Health only filled 26% of the available places, medicine and occupational health 61%, medical biology 67%, psychiatry 76%, geriatrics 79% and medical genetics 90%.

Regarding general medicine, this year, only 2% of vacant places remained, but remember that it represents 40% of the workforce with 3,211 positions open out of 7,974 interns.
