Week after week, COVID-19 is circulating and claiming new victims in NB.
Data compiled periodically by the Ministry of Health reveals that 30 people died after contracting the disease in the province between August 25 and November 9.
The latest figures indicate that from November 3 to 9, three people died from COVID-19. The previous week, five patients had suffered the same fate.
However, this is incomplete data, because the authorities no longer systematically record patients who could be affected. It is therefore possible that deaths attributable to COVID-19 will be more numerous.
Since the end of August, 501 hospitalized patients have suffered from this virus. Of these, 37 were admitted to intensive care.
During the same period, 131 outbreaks were also recorded.
During the week beginning November 3, there were five outbreaks, including two in retirement homes.
Last month, at least two care homes on the Acadian Peninsula were forced to tighten their measures when cases of COVID-19 were detected in them.
A few weeks ago, the Résidence aux Douces Marées in Bas-Caraquet announced the presence of this disease within its walls. Last week, it was the Villa Beauséjour in Caraquet which, for the same reasons, adopted restrictions on visits.
On Tuesday, David Kelly, from the Ministry of Health, indicated in writing to Acadie Nouvelle that “COVID-19 still poses a risk to the health of the population, particularly for immunocompromised people and other vulnerable groups.”
The ministry spokesperson also clarified that NB is now in a time of year when respiratory diseases are circulating more. He recalled that vaccination was “the best way to protect against serious consequences, such as hospitalization and death”.
