Before presenting this new treatment possibility, let us remember that the prostate is a small gland located in the pelvic cavity in men.

Relatively little developed during childhood, the prostate doubles in size during puberty to reach its final dimensions throughout adult life.

However, the prostate ends up gradually hypertrophying, generally after the age of 50. It is precisely at this time of life that the first problems related to the prostate can arise…

The second most frequently diagnosed cancer in men after lung cancer, prostate cancer represented 59,885 new cases diagnosed in in 2018, or almost a quarter (24%) of male cancers.

At IGBMC, Kateryna Len is interested in the role of vitamin D and its receptor in the development and dissemination of prostate cancers.

Its results show that the administration of a vitamin D analogue – in combination with chemotherapy – could be a solution to chemo-resistant prostate cancer.

In addition, Kateryna Len’s work has highlighted the involvement of a type of immune cell, neutrophils, in the dissemination of prostate cancer cells, thus opening new perspectives for the prevention of metastatic prostate cancer.

Remember that the ARC Foundation supports the work of Kateryna Len as part of her 4th year of thesis.
