“Raising awareness of the importance of prevention to reduce the risk of stroke”: this is the objective of the neurology department of the Cornouaille -Concarneau hospital center. In this context, and that of World Stroke Day, the health establishment will organize, on the Laennec site in Quimper, a conference open to all, on Thursday November 21, 2024. It will be in the presence of Doctor Florent Goupil , neurologist, but also neurology nurses, dieticians, addictologists and teachers of adapted physical activity.

30,000 deaths each year in

In France, some 120,000 people are hospitalized each year for a stroke, and more than 30,000 die. “However, many strokes can be avoided,” notes the hospital center, which also specifies that for this medical emergency, “every minute counts to limit the after-effects.”

The proposed conference will notably address warning signs as well as “modifiable risk factors to prevent strokes”. Among them, smoking, abdominal obesity, unbalanced diet, lack of physical activity, excessive alcohol consumption, stress, depression… Knowing that “high blood pressure is the first of these factors to to monitor and treat. And that “the use of psychoactive substances such as cannabis, cocaine or heroin can also increase the risk of stroke”.
