Diabetes: screening day on November 13 at Douarnenez hospital

Prevention before cure. The Douarnenez hospital center will hold a diabetes prevention and screening day on Wednesday November 13, on the eve of World Diabetes Day. This operation, carried out jointly with the public health center of the Cornouaille hospital center, the Finistère diabetics association and the CPTS des 2 Baies (Territorial Professional Health Community), aims to identify “diabetics who are unaware of themselves”. Understand those who have contracted the disease, but who do not yet know it. 700,000 people in do not know that they are diabetic, or 1 in 20 French people.

Type 1 or type 2 diabetes

This will also be an opportunity for health professionals to explain the differences between type 1 and type 2 diabetes. The first is an autoimmune disease characterized by the presence of autoantibodies destroying the cells of the pancreas which secrete insulin. The second, representing 92% of cases, is an insidious pathology correlated with several risk factors (poor eating habits, sedentary lifestyle, excess weight, etc.).

Practical

Prevention and screening on Wednesday, November 13, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the reception of the Douarnenez hospital center. Free and without appointment.
