The regional health agency (ARS) communicates to The union – The Ardennes its 2024 vaccination strategy to increase the number of people at risk who will be protected against both flu and Covid this winter.

“The Covid-19 vaccination schedule has been simplified: only one booster dose is necessary for all people aged 5 and over, regardless of their vaccination history. No delay is required between a flu vaccination and that against Covid-19, which facilitates co-administrations. »

Access to vaccination is becoming easier and simpler: “For residents of retirement homes, it is provided directly within their establishment or in conjunction with their attending physician. Everyone else can choose between the doctor, pharmacist, nurse or midwife. »

This double campaign aims primarily “elderly people (over 65 years old, residents of nursing homes and long-term care units (USLD) regardless of their age), people who are immunocompromised or have comorbidities, as well as pregnant women and people who live alongside of vulnerable people”.

The challenge is to do better than last year: “In 2023-2024, only 47.1% of people at risk were vaccinated against influenza, well below our target of 75%. Among people over 65, coverage was only 54%, while it is particularly low for those under 65 at risk (25%). Concerning Covid-19, vaccination coverage is also insufficient: at the end of last winter’s campaign in the region, only 29% of people over 65 had received a booster dose against Covid-19with particularly low coverage among 65-74 year olds. » The ARS reminds that vaccination is the only way to avoid serious forms of flu and Covid.
