After pink October, the month of November is adorned with blue for the prevention of prostate and testicular cancer. Several actions are organized throughout Switzerland to raise public awareness of these diseases which affect more than 6,000 men each year. A support group was also created in the region a year ago. He is organizing an awareness conference this Monday at 6:30 p.m. in collaboration with the Jura Hospital and the Jura Cancer League.
After a year of existence, the facilitator of CaP Jura, Vincent Bédat is convinced that this discussion group has great importance for its twenty participants. “Certain subjects that men do not wish to talk about were able to be discussed. Over the course of the sessions, quite intimate subjects were brought up. Above all, there were a lot of exchanges and little tips linked to everyone’s experience which could be shared,” he explains. Guests also came to give advice to participants, such as a sexologist or a physiotherapist specializing in the pelvis.
A desire to develop
The support group team is very motivated to develop this approach. “We want to believe that one day, everyone will be able to talk freely about prostate cancer,” says Vincent Bédat. An association was also created to develop activities. Its aim is to raise funds in order to offer new things to participants. “The goal is to be able to make ourselves known on a wider scale. We also want to organize events such as less formal meetings on walks. We would also like to create workshops, for example on how to prepare your will,” he adds. One thing is certain, this support group is not about to disappear. /lge
