en-Bigorre – An online fundraiser launched to support the family of Layanna, who died of devastating meningitis

An online fundraiser has been launched to support the family of Layanna, who died of devastating meningitis.

The news of the death of Layanna, a little girl full of life and smile, shocked the town of Vic-en-Bigorre and well beyond. This little girl, described as a “ray of sunshine” by all those who met her, left far too early, the victim of devastating meningitis. Her sudden departure leaves a huge void, both for her family and for friends and members of the Maison des Jeunes et de la Culture (MJC) in Vic-en-Bigorre, where she had spent moments of laughter and sharing during last vacation.

A solidarity collection to support the family

To support Layanna’s family through this devastating ordeal, an online fundraiser has been set up. The money collected will be used for funeral expenses, allowing her loved ones to offer her a final tribute worthy of the love she inspired in them. This financial assistance is essential to alleviate an unforeseen and particularly heavy burden at a time already overwhelmed with pain.

The MJC of Vic-en-Bigorre, where Layanna spent five days filled with games, laughter and exchanges, testifies to the positive impact she had on those she met. “At the MJC leisure center, during the last holidays, we had the chance to meet Layanna: five days of games, laughter, and exchanges with her! A real little ray of sunshine gone too soon,” expresses the MJC in an emotional message on its Facebook page.

Meningitis: what is it?

Meningitis is a serious infection of the meninges, the membranes that surround the brain and spinal cord. It can be caused by bacteria, viruses or, more rarely, fungi. Bacterial meningitis, the most severe and often fatal form, can progress very quickly and, in certain cases like that of Layanna, manifest itself in a devastating form. Symptoms usually include severe headache, fever, vomiting, neck stiffness, and sensitivity to light. In young children, signs may be less specific, such as irritability, unusual sleepiness or refusal to eat.

It is crucial to diagnose and treat meningitis promptly, as complications can be serious, leading to neurological sequelae or death. Some vaccines can prevent some forms of bacterial meningitis, but others cannot, such as those caused by viruses.

A call for solidarity

The loss of Layanna is a painful reminder of the brutality of this disease. For those who wish to support the family at this difficult time, this fund is a way to bring a little comfort, not only by lightening the financial burden of the funeral, but also by showing their loved ones that they are not alone in their sorrow.
