The provincial ministry of health set up a community advisory committee to combat Mpox on Friday, November 1 in Bukavu.
The objective is to monitor the evolution of the disease within the community, with key players, for the good health of the population.
Beyond the technical level, the actors who are members of this committee will pass messages to the community with the aim of strengthening what is already being done.
The provincial Minister of Health, Théophile Walulika Muzaliwa, explains that the role of this committee is to support, do research, and raise community awareness about the Mpox epidemic:
“We are still continuing to raise awareness because the population must understand that we are in an epidemic and we must make efforts so that we can still block the road to this epidemic.”
The population is also called upon to collaborate with the scientific team, which conducts research in order to provide solutions adapted to specific community aspects.
“Participate in raising awareness so that the population can understand and above all also help the scientific team in the search for appropriate solutions,” added Dr Christian Tshongo Mohindo, researcher at the center for tropical diseases and global health.
Mayors, neighborhood leaders, provincial deputies, church and hospital leaders will reflect on the mechanisms necessary to strengthen the management of the disease without ignoring the contribution of researchers to minimize the impact of Mpox.
The goal is to contain the disease in this province, but also to prevent other diseases.
