Five students from the Toulouse medical faculty have just arrived in Figeac to complete a six-month internship at the Hospital Center. On May 15, the welcome ceremony brought together several doctors, elected officials from the town hall, Grand Figeac and the Occitanie region around four of these interns who were able to free themselves for the occasion: Delphine, Laura, Sarah and Solene.

“Thank you for choosing Figeac,” greeted Mayor André Mellinger. “I am not going to come back to the lack of doctors but encourage you to settle in Figeac at the end of your studies.” The ceremony is an opportunity for Claude Gendre, elected special delegate for health in Grand Figeac, to return to local specificities with the salaried medicine center. “I was a pure and die-hard liberal but I must recognize that with experience, salaried medicine is one of the possible paths to improving patient service. Today there are nine doctors working, some part-time, in our six centers spread across the Grand Figeac region.”

Valerie Sohet testifies. “I am an employed doctor in Grand Figeac where I really enjoy working for a short time, I am retired. This salaried medicine allows us to maintain the quality of our work and to take a little more time with patients. Le Grand Figeac gives me 20 minutes per patient. I really appreciate it because currently general practitioners are obliged to do it in ten minutes maximum. It’s unmanageable, we lose quality of care. With salaried medicine, we manage to maintain quality of care. » Valérie Sohet, who also chairs the CPTS (Territorial Professional Health Community), encouraged young interns to stay in Grand Figeac after the end of their studies. “When I arrived as an intern, I fell in love with this area and I stayed there. There’s a great energy here.”

Nathalie Escure, interim director of the Figeac Hospital Center, announced to the interns the development of the geriatric sector “which is on track by the end of the year”. “As for the MRI, we are talking about it but it should also arrive after the return of the ARS. » The director also announced the next renovation of the boarding school so that future boarders can finally be better received. Vincent Labarthe also provided some details: “we were the first community of municipalities to create a center for neglected patients with the help of the Hospital and general practitioners who were willing to participate.” The President of Grand Figeac who greeted his teams mobilized on the question of a possible dental center.

The Figeac Hospital center attracts interns for internships

When asked if the interns wish to stay in the area, Delphine intern in general medicine responds “I am from Toulouse and I like to visit the surrounding area. to see where I would like to settle. I was in Foix before arriving in Figeac. I could why not settle here, I’ll see at the end of the internship.” Solène chose Figeac for the quality of welcome and training at the Figeac hospital center. “The training is very well evaluated by former interns who have moved to Figeac. I don’t have a defined project but it’s a sector that I like. This remains an open door. » For Sarah, also an intern in general medicine, the choice of Figeac allowed her to get closer to her partner who found a job in Puybrun. “If my partner likes his job, then I could stay in the sector. I would like to work in the countryside, in rural areas. » An intention which could be beneficial for patients as well as for doctors practicing in the region.
