actions implemented by the City to combat mosquitoes

A phenomenon that has lasted for several years. This Thursday May 9the city of Montauban sent a message to its entire population, as part of the mosquito control.

Start of operations in March

To prevent the larvae from growing and becoming mosquitoes, the City launched, at the beginning of March, a first mosquito control operation. “They will continue regularly until November,” the municipality insisted. Added to this process, four terminals were installed in two nurseries in the Cité d’Ingres.

Arriving in Montauban in 2015, the tiger mosquito has continued to develop, today becoming a real scourgeexplained the City.

Still according to the City, it is important to act from the beginning of spring because “the female of this insect, whose lifespan ranges from around fifteen days to a month, lays eggs on average between 50 and 300 eggs once a week“.

What actions to adopt?

Place of residence, shared gardens or even cemeteries, here are the good practices to adopt against this aggressive insect whose action radius is limited to 150 meters:

  • replace water from flower and plant cups with damp sand
  • empty and return unused containers
  • maintain ornamental ponds, swimming pools, manholes and watering points
  • cure exterior drains as well as gutters…

In 2023, nine campaigns had been carried out in the public domain, thus making it possible to process 600 kilometers communal ditches, water retention basins, the green belt and the Jardin des Plantes.
