Here are 3 things stopping you from losing weight, according to a doctor, and how to fix them

Practicing a calorie-burning sport, diet, eating slimming foods… We have all our techniques to try to stay in shape. This is even more true before summer, a time when many of us want to shed the few extra pounds gained during the winter before the arrival of bikini season. But, despite your efforts, you can’t lose weight? It may be because you have your slimming strategy all wrong. This Wednesday, May 8, Dr. Jimmy Mohamed revealed in a video posted on his Instagram account 3 things that can prevent us from losing weight. Three very common mistakes!

Poor sleep keeps us from losing weight

The first parameter that can prevent us from losing weight according to Dr Jimmy Mohamed is sleep. “ Lack of sleep is the disease of the century. The problem is that when we don’t get enough sleep, we eat a lot more. The satiety hormones are completely blocked and the hunger hormone will be activated”, explains the doctor. If not getting enough sleep blocks our weight loss goals, going to bed late is just as problematic. In the evening, we eat a lot more. “You must have noticed, at midnight, we are immediately hungry whereas at 10 p.m., 9 p.m., we were fine. It’s not that we want to eat, it’s that our brain is deceiving us,” points out the doctor. To avoid nighttime cravings, you must “go to bed earlier and dine earlier”.

Eating too quickly ruins our weight loss goals

The second mistake that can ruin our efforts to lose weight is to eat too quickly. The feeling of fullness usually happens when our stomach is completely full or when our brain says stop. But eating too quickly disrupts this natural process. “Normally, the stomach is a bit like a balloon. A balloon that can be filled very significantly. So if you eat very, very quickly, you will eat in large quantities. And when you eat in large quantities, the stomach will expand until you can’t take it anymore.”, explains Jimmy Mohammed. It is only there that our body will decree that we are no longer hungry. “But it’s already too late, because we ate in very large quantities”, warns the doctor. The doctor reminds us that it is normally necessary “20-25 minutes so that, when we start eating, our stomach sends a message to the brain to say ‘I’m not hungry anymore’. » So the faster we eat, the more we will eat. It is therefore essential to take your time at the table.

Restrictive diets are counterproductive

To lose weight, many women embark on restrictive diets, this is also a mistake. Dr Jimmy Mohamed thus warns against the fact of “not eating enough” to lose weight faster. “We often say that we need calorie restriction. This means that if you spend more calories than you take in, you will lose weight. It’s true, to a certain extent.”, thus qualifies the doctor. And to explain: “ If you no longer eat anything, if you starve yourself, at the very beginning it will work. Then, your body will activate survival mode”. Our body will then get used to functioning with few calories, and when we eat normally again, weight regain is assured.

Jimmy Mohammed advises instead: “You need to increase your energy expenditure a little and reduce your caloric intake a little, but not drastically”. But, according to the doctor, “Above all, you have to eat differently” : “ You need to eat more protein, more fiber and less fast sugars”. The good news is that we “can lose weight without getting frustrated”. You can even eat more and lose more, says Dr Jimmy Mohamed, it all depends on the foods you eat. So we stop starving ourselves.
