Pink October: around a hundred participants for the Amazon march in Sète

This action, organized by the Sète association Les Moissons du Coeur, took place this Saturday on the Lido promenade.

In the middle of the usual Saturday morning runners, around a hundred walkers, all wearing a bib, walked the Lido promenade on October 5. Some had hung pink balloons from their strollers while others had worn pink clothing or accessories, on the occasion of this Amazon march departing from Place Roger-Thérond. Organized by the Sète association Les Moissons du Coeur, this action was part of Pink October, breast cancer screening awareness month.

A wellness village

From 9 a.m., participants were able to enjoy a wellness village set up on the esplanade, with sophrology, massage and even sex therapy stands. At the start of the morning, the public was also able to benefit from a breast self-palpation demonstration. “This walk is an additional way to raise awareness about screening and prevention”says Lisa Asensio-Calzada, president of Moissons du cœur. It also raised funds for the League Against Cancer through the purchase of a bib for €10.

Under bright sunshine, the participants finally set off a little before 10:30 a.m., heading towards the Listel roundabout. “We can see a lot of faithful. Some are gradually bringing new people,” says the president. Sandrine has been one of these faithful since she was affected by breast cancer. She came surrounded by some of her family and friends. “It’s important to be there to support it but also to give a little money for research,” underlines his daughter Elodie.

“Concerned as a woman”

Just behind them, three young girls get to know each other while walking. “It’s also an opportunity to meet new people,” smiles Géralda, coming for the first time with classmates. “A friend mentioned in front of the class that there was this great marchindicates the nursing school student. The fight against breast cancer concerns us all, especially as women, so when we can help, by making a donation, it is important to participate.” Other actions are planned throughout the month, in Sète, in favor of Pink October.
