The City of Chaumont, ambassador of the Citique network?

The City of is considering becoming an ambassador for the Citique network, a participatory research program dedicated to the study of ticks and the diseases they transmit.

However, if the initiative is approved at the City Council on October 9, Chaumont is committed to citizen participation in the search for diseases caused by contact with a tick. The idea is to provide sampling kits and a mailbox to ensure the collection of samples and thus raise awareness among the population, as well as schools, of the risks associated with these little creatures. The City is committed to regularly sending the samples collected to the relevant laboratory.

The collection action contributes to scientific research and public health, while being part of efforts to prevent vector-borne diseases (caused by a pathogenic germ – virus, parasite, bacteria, carried and inoculated by a vector – mosquito, tick, bedbug, etc.). The region is in fact particularly affected by diseases transmitted by ticks. This collection concerns specimens collected from individuals or animals. We know about Lyme disease, but other pathologies are developing.

These infectious agents seem rarer, are poorly understood, and their real impact on human health is still unknown. The ticks sent to the Tous Chercheurs laboratory will allow analyses to be carried out to better understand their abundance and geographical distribution. And thus, improve knowledge.
