Several cases of meningococcal meningitis have been reported in the same family in Rennes and Chantepie (Ille-et-Vilaine), learned, Tuesday, February 4, “here Armorique” from the Regional Health Agency of Brittany (ARS) , confirming information from Ouest-France. A person is dead. Two others are hospitalized at the Rennes University Hospital. Their state is in the improvement phase. A third patient is under surveillance.
In all, around forty people have been identified as a case contacts by ARS. All have benefited from prophylactic antibiotic treatment to avoid the development of infection.
The main signs of meningococcal meningitis are fever, intense and persistent headaches, a stiff neck, nausea, vomiting, red or purplish stains on the skin, muscle and joint pain in particular, recalls ARS Bretagne who invites you to consult a doctor in an emergency or to call 15 in the event of symptoms.
