With a solid experience of 16 years as an urgentist at the hospital, Dr. Demeno Nandjou settled in the Bastide de Puymirol as a general practitioner, in reinforcement of a colleague in this town.

Dr. Demeno Nandjou has just settled in Puymirol. A reception ceremony was organized last Saturday at the town hall in its honor, in a joyful atmosphere linked to the songs sung by his relatives in the middle of the municipal hall. A tradition to wish him good luck, the doctor being of Cameroonian origin, arrived in France in Compiègne in 2005, before joining Agen.
Monday morning at 8 am, Dr. Nandjou opened his office and started his consultations. 800 names are already registered on his waiting list: “I have to record them all”, underlines the one who is preparing to be the referring doctor of more than 1,000 patients in the long term.
A patient in the bastide Puymirolaise of course, of the whole country of greenhouses and the surroundings like Laroque-Timbaut, Penne d’Agenais and even Golfech in Tarn-et-Garonne, he could see.

Firm foot

He was expected like the Messiah in his cabinet fitted out in the old tourist office, 8 rue des Arcades, and made available to him by the municipality.
Puymirol now has two general practitioners with Dr Florian Despeysses who also exercises in liberal, but in a separate cabinet. It was he who strongly encouraged him to come and join him in Puymirol and the decision was fast, taken last November, said the newcomer.
Dr. Nandjou had since 2008, an emergency doctor at the Agen Nérac hospital center. “I was practicing as a hospital practitioner in the emergency room and I was in charge of the door beds, the regulation of the SAMU, the interventions of the SMUR and also in a more specific manner responsible for organ samples”. He retains a part -time time in the hospital, an activity day in the emergency department and he is now spending four days as a liberal doctor in Puymirol.

11 years of study including a specialization in cardiology

“It is another challenge that awaits me here, the opportunity to discover another facet of the profession, after the function of an emergencyist which is very difficult, I am today dedicated to medicine of first recourse, in contact of the population, which is for me a new experience ”.
With his emergency training of eleven years of study carried out in Senegal, patients find there a seasoned professional at different pathologies and who can explore a wide spectrum of diseases. “I am able to carry out the electrocardiograms and interpret them, to carry out specific acts like suturing a wound in the cabinet. So a small grandma or a child will not have to wait four hours in the emergency room ”. A precious presence in rural areas for families, seniors, chronic patients or suffering from polypathologies.

Surprised by the crowds

It is therefore overflowing with enthusiasm that he took his post on February 3 in the heart of the Bastide de Puymirol, surprised from the first day by the crowds in the waiting room over the hours and non -stop: “I did not have time to eat,” he confided on Monday evening at the end of this sporting day around 7:30 p.m. a smile in his voice. Seniors, young people, children, whose meetings had been made on the phone via a secretarial platform or by doctolib. His colleague who can no longer receive new patients.

“I am lucky to love everything in medicine”

Dr. Nandjou says he is very happy and grateful to the mayor and the municipality who have deployed “the financial efforts necessary to carry out work” in the cabinet he occupies today.
To the question of knowing if he is not going to regret the world of emergency in which he keeps a foothold, for dense days as a doctor with however nights, guards and less weekends, he replies: ” ‘I have the chance that everything pleases me in medicine ”.
At the age of 49, it is a new future more anchored in a local medicine that favors the sense of listening, the follow -up of long -term patients, which takes shape on a different pace: “Four patients per about time to examine, as in the emergency room, the case of a patient can require 2 or 3 hours ”.
While medical deserts extend in Lot-et-Garonne, that large areas are affected by the absence of doctors and municipalities place banners at city entrances to search for the rare pearl, Puymirol finds himself pretty well Lotie . But medical wandering is such that as soon as a firm very quickly arrives at saturation of patients, the quest resumes inexorably.
