CME Group Tour Championship: A good finish in vain for Boutier

For the very last round of this 2024 season of LPGA Tour, Celine Boutier was once again better than the route of the Shark Club which hosted this week the CME Group Tour Championship. Although her start was somewhat sluggish with a bogey and four pars on the first five holes, the Frenchwoman was active from the 6th to improve her total score which showed -9 after the first three days. At the end of the 18th, it had gone to -12 thanks to a final card of 69 (-3).

But this good performance was unfortunately without influence in winning the last title of the year and, with it, that of champion of the season. Because the two leading women who were Jeeno Thitikul et Angel Yin put up a fight worthy of a final, animated by a shower of 12 birdies and an eagle. Starting this Sunday morning with a certain lead – at least three over the rest of the field – the Thai and the American were equal until the start of the 18th before Thitikul, world No. 7, took all the honors with a final birdie in front of the club house. His card of 65 (-6) against the 66 (-5) of his direct opponent was enough to win by one unit at -22 total and win the trophies of the tournament and the season. She thus stole a reward that the seven-time winner would have deserved during the season, Nelly Repeat, but the American “only” finished 5th this week.
