Former winner on the PGA Tour and recognized figure on the American circuit, Joel Dahmen almost ensured he kept his card for 2025 by sinking a 1.50m putt which allowed him to cross the cut at the RSM Classic. The emotion of this big-hearted player was immense.
The duo that form Joel Dahmen and his historic caddy, his childhood friend Geno Bonnaliewas made famous not only by their touching victory in Corales Puntacana Resort and Club Championship 2021two years after Dahmen was cured of cancer, but also by season 2 of Flull Swing on Netflix. We saw the cracks, the doubts of the player, and also those of the caddy, whose income depends directly on the performance of his friend.
As Dahmen's exemption from his victory three years ago comes to an end, the Washington player has fought all season to retain his playing rights on the PGA Tour for next year. He missed 10 cuts, managed only one top 10 and even had some unpleasant mishaps, when a penalty for Bonnalie's carelessness recently cost him dearly at the Shriners Children’s Open.
The story ends well, or at least should end well: by sinking a 1.50m putt on the last hole of his second at RSM ClassicJoel Dahmen is almost mathematically guaranteed to remain on the PGA Tour in 2025. Ranked 127th in the FedEX Cup, he should score enough points at the end of the tournament to be sure of being in the top 125.
My story is not over
Joel Dahmen
Interviewed later, Joel Dahmen, 37, was on the verge of tears. And proud to have been able to return “the most stressful putt” of his entire career. “It's even worse than putting for victory in a tournament, I was very nervous.”
“My story is not overhe assured, tremors in his voice. I am happy that this continues, for my loved ones, my wives, my children, my friends, Geno… If I hadn't been able to play this weekend, I know the story would have been different.”
“I still have a lot to give over the next two days, but I will give everything, for myself and those around me.”, he concluded.
The last tournament of the season, the RSM Classic, is decisive for getting your card on the PGA Tour in 2025. Paul Barjon did not succeed. Martin Trainer is on a tangent… The story should in any case end well for Joel Dahmen.
