These two courses nevertheless have their own specificity…
Indeed, Méan's 5 Nations course is very well known abroad, particularly among the Dutch public. We have a very tourist clientele there. Many golfers also take advantage of our 35-room hotel-restaurant to stay for the weekend and enjoy the Méan and Durbuy courses. The Golf de Durbuy has, for its part, the spirit of a sports club where you can play cards and relax.
Golf is a booming sport…
Few know it, but golf is currently the most practiced sport in the world. As for our structure, it is doing quite well. Since the end of the Covid period, the number of our members has increased from 250 to 550. It's really not bad, but our ambition and my objective, as new director, is to still be able to introduce this sport to the public. greater number.
How do you plan to achieve this?
Golf still too often suffers from an elitist image. However, nothing could be further from the truth! Everyone can now learn golf very easily and democratically. Particularly young people up to 12 years old for whom we offer a contribution of €195 per year. As for equipment, we can start with half-series of clubs now available in all sports stores… For 13-17 year olds, the contribution increases to €395 per year, which remains reasonable compared to subscriptions. requested in certain other sports. We offer introductory courses during each school holiday period, to see if the young people stick with it.
And for adults?
Here too, we are making many efforts to democratize the practice of this sport with numerous 2-hour initiations offered every 15 days alternating at our two structures in Barvaux and Méan. We will also soon invest in the accessibility of our Méan practice for people with reduced mobility (PRM).
Golf, we suspect, also greatly attracts businesses?
In fact, it already works quite well. This will be one of our priority areas of work in 2025, including the development of a brand new seminar room in Méan, Barvaux already having one above the club house brasserie. We can also organize, on request, tournaments for businesses.
Recently, you have been organizing activities aimed at a more family audience…
You should know that our two club houses in Méan and Durbuy are accessible even to non-golfers. You can have lunch at noon, or organize events in our restaurant in Méan or our brasserie in Barvaux, which since September also has a new head chef in the person of Xavier Galand (Bru'sserie, Wagyu). Since this fall, we have also been organizing events to introduce our facilities to as many people as possible. This is how we just organized a gourmet stroll last Sunday. We are preparing to welcome the Hivernales in the courtyard of the Méan farm, our club house. It will be a gourmet Christmas market accessible to 100 people per evening. And we will offer sauerkraut, as tradition, on January 1st.
