The Bourdonnec Trophy

Paul Bourdonnec died in 2013. Every year, golf celebrates his birth anniversary on August 9 with its eponymous trophy.

Gaétane Bourdonnec, his daughter, took charge with her mother Annie. “The season begins with Armorican Golf Trophy », explains Gaétane. “All the golf courses in the department are invited, as well as a few others from Ille-et-Vilaine. » 800 players gather each year, golf is full.

Unable to find buyers for the farm, the Bourdonnec family wanted to build a gîte. Mixed success: “It was a time when green tourism was not yet in vogue. » So what to do? The family takes up swing golf with a three-sided club, a “kind of summary of golf”.

200 members

In 1987, the 9-hole course was created. It will be approved 11 years later. In 2011, the golf course expanded to 18 holes. Little by little, he found his cruising speed with around thirty competitions per year, every Thursday afternoon and every Sunday.

The Bgard golf sports association has 200 membersfrom Morlaix to Goélo, and in Central Brittany.

There are 11 golf courses listed in the department. We like to make exchanges because the golfer appreciates changing courses depending on the view, with more or fewer trees, with a sea view or not.

In total, for Brittany, around sixty private or public golf courses.

Family and festive atmosphere

“Here,” says the boss, “we are not at all in the cliché of those who arrive with high-end cars while snubbing everyone. » Gaétane dusts off the elitist image of this sport: “Golf is not a sport reserved for old people either, or even, golf is a sport! » She argues:

A route is at least 8 or 9 km of walking. The concentration required is very important. We have a golf school with 22 children registered.

For 2 or 3 hours per week all inclusive, registration costs €200.

Originally, it is true, the sport was gentrified: “Saint Andrew golf course in Scotland is the cradle. The players made their way to be among themselves. »

A little later, Dinard installed the 2nd golf course in France. “At that time, each player was supervised by an instructor. You had to reach a certain level to be admitted. » A bygone era: “Golf, It's like learning to swim. You need the basics to enjoy the course. »

The pro, nickname of the teacher, is there for that: “The ideal is to do an initiation with the pro. Take lessons with him, choose your club, manage obstacles. »

Another good way to get started is to go double. “It’s the idea of ​​playing as a pair. The one who makes the best shot is kept, that allows you to move forward. »

The Bgard golf course has a par of 68. This means that in theory, the course must be completed in 68 shots, “but golfers are already happy when they are under 100! » There remains the weather: take inspiration from this adage: “In Scotland, we play golf even when it’s not raining!” »

Water management

The water is scrupulously collected in a pond before watering.

We don't use city water at all. We are monitored, we have a water meter in the pool. Sometimes it overflows and the water is poured onto the green.

A golf course responsible for resources, fauna and flora: “ We protect biodiversity. We come across hares, deer, ducks and wild boars. These ones are less fun! We are also here to take a walk, between sport and respect for nature. »
