The least we can say is that the general attitude of left-handed Bob on the occasion of the Dunhill Links Championship irritated. He still expresses some displeasure when Rory McIlroy drives into his feet. Certainly, during this tournament with a very slow pace of play, it was quite common on the Old Course in particular, for balls to land at the players’ feet since many par 4s are “drivable”. But there was more embarrassing than MacIntyre’s ostentatious displeasure with Rory McIlroy. Certainly, he did not smile at the person concerned during the “links championship” since he committed a double bogey and a bogey during the third and fourth rounds. “It’s a par 5, not a par 4. There’s no point in trying to modernize it by lengthening it. For a par 4 to be exciting, the dangers must be present on the 2nd shot. Here no one is trying to reach the green in 2.”
Which of course is false.
Internet users didn’t miss it. On X, the comments were scathing. ‘Tyrrell Hatton without a sense of humor’, ‘Young, arrogant and stupid’, ‘One more reason to hate him’the messages were almost all one-sided.
Even the DP World Tour player Eddie Pepperellwho regularly speaks on the podcast “The Chipping Forecast”, did not spare him.
“I like Bob but I find his behavior to be that of a crybaby. I think his attitude has changed since he won on the PGA Tour. He seems easily bothered by his surroundings on the course. Which is strange considering his talent. Regarding the 17th hole of the Old Course, I completely disagree with him. The Road Hole is a great golf hole and it is great that it is difficult, while the rest of the course has become child’s play for these great champions when the weather is good.”
What Eddie Pepperell implies is that Robert MacIntyre would have taken a big head after his success at l’Open du Canada and at Scottish Open This year. But faced with these criticisms, left-handed Bob put an end to the controversy with a more positive post on X.
“Double bogey Saturday, bogey Sunday, the double blade… Sorry 17th hole at St Andrews, it was in the heat of the action… Nothing personal.”
