Golf Canada made permanent the tournament logo featuring his silhouette with the putter throw on Friday, in addition to adding the logo to the event trophy.
Taylor heard the news at his home in Abbotsford from Golf Canada staff.
“This recognition is truly humbling – I am at a loss for words,” Taylor said. I was flattered by the commemorative logo, but for it to become (permanent) is truly an incredible honor. I am proud to share this honor with my family. »
The modified logo was originally intended to be used for one year, to highlight Taylor's 72-foot winning putt, in 2023.
The breakthrough came on the fourth extension hole at the Oakdale club in Toronto, against the Englishman Tommy Fleetwood.
In the logo, the silhouette of the British Columbian takes the place of the “i” in “Canadian”, with the putter thrown into the air in celebration.
Taylor then became the first Canadian champion of the tournament in 69 years.
“Nick Taylor's historic winning putt will forever remain an iconic moment in Canadian sport and one of the most exhilarating (shots) in Canadian championship history,” said Mary DePaoli, executive vice-president and director of marketing. at RBC.
“The fact that Nick is leaving a lasting legacy in the tournament logo is fitting and we are very proud of the mark he has left on Canadian golf. »
The logo earned the Canadian Open the distinction of Best Marketing Initiative of 2024 this week at the PGA Tour's end-of-season meeting in Orlando.
“The logo was so well received that we felt an ongoing celebration of this milestone was an easy choice,” said Tim McLaughlin, Golf Canada's chief marketing director.
The 2025 edition of the tournament will take place from June 4 to 8 at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley (North Course), in Caledon.
