Tiger Woods will compete at the PNC Championship with his 15-year-old son Charlie, meaning he will be competing for the first time since the British Open last July and after undergoing a sixth back operation three months ago .
Woods has competed in the PNC Championship, a 36-hole competition, with Charlie every year since 2020. The tournament invites golfers who have won majors or the Players Championship along with their loved ones, often their children.
“We can't wait to play together, and it's even more special to be able to do it surrounded by family and friends,” Woods said.
The PNC Championship will take place December 21-22 at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Florida, and will feature 20 teams. Newcomers this year include Fred Couples and his stepson Hunter Hannemann, as well as Trevor Immelman and his son Jacob.
Since the tournament is approved by the Champions Tour, Woods will be allowed to drive around the course in a cart, an essential condition for his return to play. He chose to skip the Hero World Challenge last week in the Bahamas , while he was the host of the event, because his game was not sharp enough to allow him to face a field made up of the 40 best golfers in the world.
Woods set a Masters Tournament record last April by avoiding the cut for the weekend rounds for a 24th time in a row. However, he was unable to cross the qualifying threshold for the weekend rounds of the other three major tournaments. He underwent a microdiscectomy in September to alleviate the pain he was experiencing in his legs, undergoing his sixth lower back surgery.
