While the South African Aldrich Potgieterleader with a three-stroke lead at the start of the last round, opened the door to his main competitors this Sunday by returning a card of 75 (+3) marred by two bogeys at 16 and 18, Johannes Veerman was not asked to rush into it. The 32-year-old American, who started a few groups before the last, first posted a very good 69 (-3) to take the lead at the clubhouse at -5 total, then patiently watched his last rivals for the title to fail to reach this bar.
Among these was the French Romain Langasquewho in the penultimate group negotiated his last round well by snatching four birdies from the course of the Gary Player Country Club. But, with three bogeys to his credit, including a very costly one at 17, the Riviera also stumbled on the last step, and had to be content with the runner-up place at -4, which he shared with Potgieter and English Matthew Jordan (72). Despite the frustration of having come so close to a play-off, this result in a very well-funded tournament ($6 million) constitutes an excellent kick-off for the 2024-25 season of Langasque, which climbs to 4th place of the Race to Dubai.
