After two fairly dull first rounds, Victor Perez found some color on Saturday on the Narashino Country Club course in Chiba, Japan. The Frenchman returns to the top half of the ZOZO Championship rankings and can expect to finish in style on Sunday.
With 9 out of 13 fairways, 15 greens taken in regulation and more than 32 meters of putts made on Saturday, Victor Perez reassured himself as much as he got back on track. The Tarbais stats contrast with those of the first two rounds when he gave up ground on the rest of the field from the start but also on the greens.
After a bogey conceded quite early in his game, at 12, his 3rd hole of the day, the French number 2 quickly got back in the saddle with a birdie at 14, a par 5 of more than 600 yards. He then completed his first leg with two good birdies. A putt of almost 12 meters at the 17th and an excellent second shot on the par 5 of hole 18 for a great eagle opportunity unfortunately not converted.
Two other birdies at 3 and 6, the third and last par 5 of the day, allowed Perez to sign a nice card of 66. At -4, he is in 39th place alongside Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa et Max Homafour shots out of the top 10.
