Still a member of DP World Tour despite his resounding start on the LIFE Golf last December for the modest sum of 500 million dollars, Jon Rahm was at the start of theSpanish Open with the aim of registering his name on the list for the 4th time. Unfortunately, his compatriot Angel Hidalgo decided otherwise. The Basque, despite a very solid last round completed in 68 (-3), lost at the 2nd play-off hole.

But the former world No. 1, double winner in Majors (US Open 2021, Masters 2023), did not lose everything. Returning to the European Tour after appealing the sanctions imposed against him by the DP World Tour, Jon Rahm has just collected his first Ryder Cup points. By taking second place in his national Open, he climbed directly to 8th place in the open ranking since the British Masters on August 29 (victory for the Dane Niklas Nørgaard).

With 166.8 points, he is only 60.61 points behind the Italian Matteo Manasserosixth and final qualified via the European Team Ranking still dominated by the Dane Rasmus Højgaard in front Rory McIlroy. Note that with his first victory over the DPWT, Angel Hidalgohe gained 61 places and now occupies 5th place (see below).

Jon Rahm will be in Scotland for theAlfred Dunhill Links Championship (October 3-6) before departing from theAndalucia Masters scheduled from October 17 to 20 in Sotogrande (Andalusia). He will then have achieved his first objective, that of having played at least three DP World Tour tournaments since the opening of the race for qualification for the 2025 Ryder Cup (the Olympic Games also count as a tournament) and thus be eligible. in the eyes of the captain Luke Donald.

Points to be taken on the PGA Tour too…

We remind you that a new points calculation system has been put in place by Ryder Cup Europe. No more list of world points in force but a general ranking via points counted in DPWT tournaments but also on the PGA Tour (from January 1, 2025).

The table below shows the total points available at each tournament in each defined category. The distribution of these points depends on the player’s ranking at the end of the tournament.

Majors 5 000 points
PGA TOUR 2025 Signature Events / The Players 2025 / 2025 FedExCup Playoff Tournaments 3 000 points
DP World Tour Rolex Series (starting September 2024) 2 000 points
Regular tournaments (that do not conflict with a Rolex Series) of the 2025 PGA TOUR FedExCup 2 000 points
DP World Tour “Back 9” Series Tournaments 1 500 points
DP World Tour Global Series Tournaments 1 000 points
Alternate tournaments (which do not conflict with a Rolex Series) of the PGA TOUR 2025 1 000 points

The points of the new system are counted from the British Masters 2024 until the DP World Tour tournament scheduled to conclude on Sunday, August 24, 2025. The 2024-25 schedule is not yet fully finalized.
